statute of law scales representing justice for fatal accident cases

CONNECTICUT WRONGFUL DEATH LAWYER

Connecticut fatal accident lawyer At the Serrano Law Firm, we understand it will not be easy for you to discuss a loved one’s death. We will take the time to listen to you calmly and compassionately if a person close to you has died as the result of a fatal accident. We will explain how Connecticut law applies to your situation. And if it appears that the law allows a wrongful death claim to be brought, we will use all our skill and resources to obtain the maximum compensation for the loss of your loved one.

In Connecticut, wrongful death cases are controlled by General Statutes Sec. 52-555. This law allows us to seek compensation for a client for the emotional suffering and financial hardship which results from the death of a spouse, parent or child. The law also allows us to seek payment of medical, hospital, nursing and funeral expenses in a wrongful death case.

The law allows an executor or administrator to bring a personal injury claim against the person or persons legally at fault for causing a person’s death. (If the deceased person left a Last Will, the executor is the person named in the Will to handle settlement of the deceased person’s estate. You may also click here to confidentially send us information for us to review your situation. We look at your case for free. We only charge a fee if we win or settle your case.

In Connecticut, a wrongful death law suit must be filed within a certain period of time — 2 years from the date of death but no later that 5 years from the date of the act that caused the death. Other laws with earlier deadlines may apply to your situation, such as if your loved one’s death was caused by the negligence of a government employee or of a person who sells liquor, or if the death was caused by a defective road or sidewalk.

Because of these deadlines, and because of the need to preserve evidence, it is important to speak to a lawyer as soon as possible if there has been a fatal accident.

If you are confronted with the accidental death of a loved one, be assured that we are here to assist you with compassion and care.

Please call to schedule an appointment to speak with us without charge about your wrongful death claim.
